‘Look Again’ is a concept created for Teesside University’s 2024 degree showcase. The idea for this concept is based around Teesside University’s Graphic Design course being ranked 1st in the Guardian’s list of best UK universities. This is despite the North East, and in particular Teesside, often being overlooked places when it comes to the creative arts. With this concept I wanted to highlight the talent that resides in these areas and challenge people to take another look.

The design elements of the concept were inspired by op art and built around optical illusions such as moiré and parallax illusions. The space that the degree show takes place in was planned to be used to bring the designs into a 3D space, for example using the movement of the doors to create the illusion in real time.
Distorting the horizontal lines in the moirè patterns and overlaying these on top of text and imagery created interesting and unique effects. This was used to create promotional materials such as posters and motion pieces. Directional posters were also created for the actual event, pulling out design elements from the promotional materials.

A brochure mock-up was also created, showcasing the front cover and a sample of the first few pages. The cover of the brochure was designed to contain a disc, that when spun, would create an optical illusion.
